Location
Set against the beautiful backdrop of the English Walled Garden in Chicago, experience the charm of nature while supporting important conservation efforts for Humboldt Penguins.
Step past the sleepy stone lion, breathe in the cowslip primrose, and listen to the water trickle into an eighteenth-century lead cistern—the feeling is as timeless as the tiny thyme plants growing between the hand-pressed bricks. Wander beneath ivy-draped archways, where sunlight filters through climbing roses, casting playful shadows across the brick paths. Lavender borders hum with bees, tulips open toward the sky, and the hush of the garden invites you to pause and take it all in.
Amid this tranquil beauty, four distinguished guests arrive—Humboldt Penguins visiting from afar. With their tuxedoed plumage and curious waddle, they provide a delightful contrast to the primroses and roses, reminding us that the natural world is full of wonder both near and far. As they mingle in this fanciful retreat, their presence turns the garden into something more than a retreat: it becomes a living celebration of conservation, connection, and care.

Cause
Your participation supports the Brookfield Zoo's efforts in conserving the Humboldt Penguins in partnership with the Punta San Juan Program.
Started in 2007 as a one-year project to assess Humboldt penguin health, the Punta San Juan Field Research and has evolved into a comprehensive field program that grows each year. Dr. Susana Cárdenas-Alayza, Director of the Punta San Juan Program, oversees the efforts to protect Humboldt penguins, cormorants, pelicans, and pinnipeds (South American fur seals and sea lions). The program is in partnership with the Center for Environmental Sustainability at Cayetano Herdia University in Lima, Peru, and the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Institute.
Join us in making a difference through camaraderie and a shared love for nature.
